Soil in ecosystem and necessity for its protection
1994
Reintam, L. (Estonian Agricultural University, Tartu (Estonia))
Soil is considered as a result of the production process as well as a prerequisite for the latter. It is one of the main constituents of the terrestrial ecosystems whereas the causal, functional and consequential interactions between vegetation and soil make the life feasible at all. The synchronous activity and progress of plant-soil system depend on the soil participation in an energy flux, turnover of substances, production phenomena, intersystem control and regulation. That is why the problems of soil conservation are of topical importance today. Soil needs protection against the constructional, municipal, vehicle-caused, industrial and chemical degradation and pollution, but also against the erosion, deflation, desertification, salinization and paludification
