Survey of Faba Bean Storage Pests in the Central Zone of Ethiopia

A survey of storage pests of faba bean (Vicia faba L. ) in the central zone of Ethiopia was carried out during the 1987 and 1988 seasons to find out their importance. In the survey areas covered, the bean bruchid, Callosobruchus chinensis L. was found the only pest of this grain. The study showed that a mean damage of 43.7 percent and a mean weight loss of 13.9 percent were both caused by the bean bruchid in a storage period of 6-7 months. From this survey, it is known that C. chinensis is a very serious pest of faba bean, particularly in the warmer areas of Yererna-Kereyu with an altitude of 1800-1900 m.
