Range of Meloidogyne spp., and damage caused by them, in South-East Hungary

Among 50 sites where Meloidogyne spp. were surveyed in 1992-1993, infection of various intensity was found on 26 sites. Meloidogyne hapla was present on 76.9 %, M. incognita on 73.l %, M. arenaria on 26.9 %, M. thamesi on 23.1 % and M. naasi on 3.8 % of the infected sites, mostly in mixed populations, whereas M. javanica infection was observed on none of the sample sites. When determining effective damage under greenhouse conditions, M. incognita caused a 3l.5 % yield loss in Balca tomatoes and M. thamesi a 52 % yield loss in Luca tomatoes
