Some questions of grape variety use on sandy soils in Hungary

Whereas in Hungary in 1993 the price of world varieties ranged between 18 and 24 Ft per kg grape that of the varieties traditionally grown on sandy soils in the Great Plain /Kadarka, Ezerjo Kovidinka and the new interspecific varieties/. Therefore their production showed a deficit in spite of the year's optimal weather conditions. Though, even after the severe frosts and subsequent droughts of the eighties these varieties were capable of regenerating both in quantity and quality, yielding 8-10 t/ha grapes with a 18-20 grade must density. Therefore it is justified to raise them from the humiliating "running wine" status
