There are two tendencies in the world. On one hand quality has the priority in producing, marketing and consuming wine. In this light interspecific hybrids have no place on the market. On the other hand environment protection and the need for organically produced food justifies the production of interspecific grape varieties. Instead of forcing German and French varieties, Hungary should rely more on domestic, traditional ones to preserve the colourful diversity of wines. At the same time we have to understand that Hungary can not dictate, only follow world trends. The wine market is fairly saturated. We have no money to introduce new brands. Our climate is not suitable for producing red wines. Their production should be restricted to a few microclimatic areas where producers do have the proper equipments and facilities including cellar with wooden casks for appropriate aging. Large scale production forced the growers to grow too many varieties with different ripening time. They should return to the old practice of not growing more than ten varieties in one wine region
