Examination of the early vine death syndrome

On diseased 11-years old vines of 58 grapevine varieties, pathogens present were determined using a microscope. From the plant samples collected, following pathogens were isolated: Phomopsis viticola (which occurred most frequently), Sphaeropsis malorum, Uncinula necator, Botrytis cenerea, Alternaria spp., Stemphylium spp. and Cladosporium spp. Only the first two species can be considered primary pathogens
