Immunohistochemical evaluation of fibrin thrombi and fibrin related materials (FRMs) in kidney of slaughterd normal cattle

Fibrin thrombi and fibrin related materials (FRMs) were observed in the twenty kidneys from slaughtered cattle by using histopathological and avidin-biotin peroxides complex (ABC) method. In hematoxylin and eosin, fibrin throbi in glomerular capillaries and renal interstitial vessels were detected in 2 cases; however fibrin thrombi were detected in all cases by PTAH staining and ABC method, however, intensity of the reaction was varied. Number of glomeruli containing fibrin thrombi or FRMs per 100 glomeruli was higher in the ABC stained section than in the PTAH staining sections. Granular or globular FRMs were seen in the lumen of urinary tubuli and in the cytoplasm of tubular cells in the 11 cases. These findings suggest that the modification of frequency of fibrin thrombi due to the hemorrhagic shock at killing of experimental animals is an important phenomenon in the histopathological evaluation of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
