Sorption properties of some clays of Latvia and their use for waste water purification

Methylene blue has been used for investigation of sorption of Latvian clays. The adsorption depends on the content of hydromuscovite in the clay. Carbon-free clay from Kuprava has the greatest sorption ability - 49.97 mg/g. The clays from Kuprava and Veldze are used for the waste water purification. The ability of ion exchange is decreased and the ability of capillary sorption is increased when the hydromica clays are thermally treated at 500-600 deg C
