Forage production and its importance for dairy farming in Latvia are discused. Hay, silage and haylage as dairy cattle feed are analysed. The influence of feed quality on its digestibility and consumption by animals is explained. The dependence of milk production and milk nutrient content on feed composition and quality is pointed out. The production of concentrates for cattle feed, their composition and dosage are considered. The methods of grass conservation and nutritional value of feed obtained are shown in tables.
