Investigation of entomopathogenous viruses in Latvia and their potential as pest control agents
1993
Zarins, I. | Eglite, G. (Institute of Biology, Salaspils (Latvia))
Eleven baculoviruses have been isolated in Latvia. Three of them (Nuclear polyhedrosis virus of Malacosoma neustria L., nuclear polyhedrosis virus of Neodiprion sertifer Geoffr. and granulosis virus of Pieris brassicae L.) are used as controlling agents in insect pest control and show high efficiency (80-100 per cent larvae mortality). Original virus formulations have been developed using various matrices. The biochemical properties of Latvian isolates of baculoviruses were investigated. Restriction endonuclease analysis was used to differentiate the Latvian isolates.
