The bactericidal action of the extract on Heliotropium indicum (PNH 163666) was monitored using the "sensitivity test". Results of the study showed that the plant extract suppressed the growth of Haemophilus gallinarum as indicated by the zone of inhibition which is comparable in size (mm) with that of streptomycin. The pharmacologic studies of the plant extract were conducted in broiler chicks (Cobb.). Results of the study showed that the LD50 and the ED50 of the plant drug were 13.93 g/kg and 3.69 g/kg b.w., respectively. Although the therapeutic index of the plant drug is 3.8, studies on the efficacy showed that at a dose level of 2 g/kg b.w. the plant extract is effective. Preliminary studies on the quality control of the plant drug showed that the efficacy was not affected by the conditions and the time of storage. The plant drug still showed its bactericidal action and efficacy after less than 5 months storage
