Weed management is an important component in integrated pest management and may require several levels of integration to deal with the diversity of the weed problem such as integration of (a) several procedures to control a single weed, (b) many methods against a complex of weeds infesting a crop, (c) weed and other pest management systems in various agroecosystems farms and regions. Implementation of integrated weed management (IWM) requires such as the major weeds infesting important crops, the biology and ecology of these weeds, available control methods as well as their relative efficacy and cost and effects on the environment, indicators for control action and means to help in proper weed identification. The important weed species in different crops and cropping systems in the country have been identified. The current challenge in the implementation of integrated weed management is the development of practical and transferable indicator for control action that would allow the Filipino farmer to make control action decisions in response to the existing weed pressure in his crop and maximize the benefits that he derives from the component control measures that he has chosen
