Under laboratory conditions citric acid was produced by Yarrowia lipolytica A-101 immobilized in Ca-alginate beads in repeated shaking cultures and a continuous process. The best effectivity of the process was obtained for 2 percent alginate beads containing 10 percent of biomass. In the continuous culture with these gel beads volumetric citric acid productivity amounted to 350 mg/lh. The use of gels beads treated with chitosan or glutaraldehyde gave the highest level of citric acid production
