The effect of orchard use on organic matter of Orthic Luvisoil was studied. Analysis included organic carbon content as well as qualitative parameters of organic matter determined by various methods of fractionation. A herbicide fallow decreased the total C content as compared to both production field and a grass stripe. The herbicide fallow system in orchard affected negatively organic matter quality what was shown as an increase of mobile fractions content and a decrease of humus content in it
