Results of the evaluation and selection on bread wheat, barley and food and forage legumes trials conducted during the 1992/93 seasons are reported. The trials were conducted at Quetta and Surab (in Kalat Division), two different but representative agro-ecological sites in Balochistan. The climatic conditions at Quetta were mild but at Surab the crop was exposed to moisture stress at the time of anthesis. Overall precipitation at Quetta was above average but at Surab it was below average. This provided a good opportunity for drought screening at the Surab test site. Germplasm in five bread wheat trials (186 entries) with fall planting was evaluated for biotic and abiotic stresses. Out of these entries, 60 were selected for further testing. The bread wheat lines HAW-16 and WOL-89-73 were again multiplied, along with Gerek and ICW-1471. They have all shown resistance to yellow rust and better productivity than the local landrace. Nine barley trials (517 entries) with fall planting were conducted at several locations and 80 of the entries were chosen for further testing. Three genotypes (Di Jou 3-2-5; Rihane-03; Arabi Abiad/Emir, ICB82-1292-0AP-0AP-6AP-0AP) were again multiplied at AZRI farm in Quetta, along with Arabic Abiad and 39-58. These lines have shown superior performance at different sites and resistance to yellow rust. Five lentil trials (69 entries) were conducted during the 1992/93 season. All entries performed well and were selected for further testing in the 1993/94 season in highland Balochistan. Two promising lines of lentil (ILL 5865 and ILL 5677) were increased. Five forage legume trials (vetch and lathyrus) with 100 different genotypes were planted at Quetta and Surab and 15 were chosen for future testing
