Research on manure and chemical fertilizers used on sandy soils for the following crop rotation: early tomato, onion, haricot in pods and autumn cabbage

Research was carried out on a psammosol, characterized by 0.47 per cent organic carbon, 68 ppm P2O5 and 28.6 ppm K2O. The aim was the evaluation of manure and chemical fertilizers, used in the following rotation composed of early tomato, onion, haricot in pods - autumn cabbage. The best yielding was obtained in tomatoes fertilized with 20 t/ha manure + N200P2O5K2O100 (53.4 t/ha); in onions there were obtained 30.2 t/ha by applying (P2O5)100(K2O)100. A yield of 9.3 t/ha was realized for haricot, by applying N100(P2O5)100(K2O)100 on a basal dressing of 60 t/ha manure. For autumn cabbage, the highest yield was obtained by fertilization with 60 t/ha manure + N150(P2O5)100(K2O)100 (82.4 t/ha). Organic and mineral fertilization significantly improved the quality. The unilateral applying of chemical fertilizers determines a reduced content of organic carbon and of the pH in soil. A dose of 60 t/ha manure permits to maintain the chemical indices of soil at the initial parameters. The energetic balance of the organic and mineral fertilization of vegetable crops is generally negative. The loss is more evident in case of applying high doses of manure. The organic fertilization is economically efficient in case of using 20 t/ha in early tomato, and 6o t/ha in the pod haricots + autumn cabbage succession. For onion and pod haricot crops, the economic efficiency of the organic fertilization is inferior to that obtained using only chemical fertilizers.
