The seasonal dynamics of root biomass, soil carbohydrates, of aggregate composition, water retention capacity and density have been investigated experimentally in the grey forest soil under barley. The impact of roots on macroporosity has been shown. The specific surface reliably decreased when carbohydrates were oxidized in samples by the Cheshire method
