The effect of irrigation on nitrate content in potato tubers
1994
Pis, V. (Vyskumny Ustav Zavlahoveho Hospodarstva, Bratislava (Slovak Republic))
Nitrate content in potatoes under 2 irrigation regimes was observed. Irrigation lowers the nitrate content in potatoes. The difference between the 2 irrigation regimes is more obvious at the end of the vegetation cycle of potatoes. It is good for potatoes intended for winter storage. Immediately after irrigation, an increase of nitrate content followed by its depression by comparison with non-irrigated plant is observed. This effect needs more attention in the future, especially the observation and determination of appropriate picking period after application of irrigation rate regarding to the nitrate content in tubers.
