Wutthichai Wutthaphanit | Kanchana Markvichitr | Srisuwan Chomchai
Experiment on duration of gestation period (107 to 114 days), 16 gilts and 21 sows were randomly assigned to 3 groups: 1) Control on natural parturition, 2) treated evaporative cooling with dripping water, 3) treated with suacron in injectable solution respectively. During summer the respiratory rate of gilts in groups 1 and 3 were significantly (P0.05) higher than group 2, and respiratory rate of sows in group 2 and 3 were significantly (P0.05) lower than group 1, but the heart rate of sows in group 1 and 2 were significantly (P0.05) higher than group 3. During winter, the heart rate of sows in group 1 was significantly (P0.05) higher than group 3. An average duration of parturition both of gilts and sows in group 1, 2 and 3 were 4.29 hrs. and 2.40 hrs. respectively. The stillbirth rate of piglets during parturition in group 1, 2 and 3 were 6.36, 3.18 and 1.56 percent respectively.
