Baseline survey on insect and mite pests
Anon.
Several species of insects and mites caused the loss in both quantity and quality of crops during the pre-and post-harvest. Among them, careful attention should be paid on the oriental fruit fly, Dacus dorsalis which is the most serious pest of exotic fruit crops, particularly peach. Wrapping the fruit with the paper bag at present seems to be the most effective prevention from the severe infestation, whereas the other methods are unsuccessful. Green citrus aphid, Aphis spiraecola was injurious to a wide range of host plants. Wax scales, Celoplastes sp. was occasionally found attacking apple, persimmon trees and their young twins. Two species of the cutworms, Spodoptera litura and Heliothis armigera often infest vegetables and ornamental plants. Besides, two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus bimaculatus and subterranean termites are also found and locally serious. The majority of the controlling measure, preferably practised by using the agricultural pesticides at almost several sites.
