Cropping pattern testing in corn based area at Chanthaburi Province [Thailand]

Cropping pattern testing in corn-based area have been conducted under rainfed conditions in farmer's field at Soidao, Chanthaburi Province in 1989. Randomized Complete Block was used with four farmers as replication. There are four cropping patterns namely soybean-corn, peanut-corn, mungbean-corn and corn-soybean (farmer practice). Growing soybean as the first crop followed by corn gave the highest net return of 3,429 baht/rai, grain yield of soybean and corn were 252 and 650 kg/rai. Peanut-corn gave the net return of 1,877 baht/rai with the yield of 514 and 662 kg/rai. Growing mungbean followed by corn gave the net return of 1,330 baht/rai, grain yield of both crop were 166 and 621 kg/rai. Growing corn as the first crop followed by soybean gave the lowest net return of 932 baht/rai with grain yield of 635 and 160 kg/rai. Farm gate price of the product was 14 baht/kg for the first crop of soybean sold as seed. Peanut and mungbean were 4 and 8 baht/kg. The first crop of corn was 2.50 baht/kg whereas the second crop of corn 2.70 baht/kg. For soybean grown as the second crop it was sold at 7.20 baht/kg.
