Prospects for the application of plant oils as a fuel for diesel engines

The paper presents the problems concerning the possibility to substitute the conventional diesel fuel by fuel of biological origin. It presents the analysis of the world production of plant oils which are the potential raw material for the production of biological fuels as well as all relevant parameters affecting the quality of such fuel. Particular attention has been paid to the results of the study of methyl exters from the sunflower oil, produced according to the Italian technology, as a fuel for diesel engines. The paper presents the data concerning the changing of engine characteristics, wearing and motor oil. The results of the analysis of exhaust gases content are also presented.
