1995

Maize population variability was studied for stay green. The S1 progenies of three synthetic populations of wide genetic basis were used for the experiments. The analysis of variance and covariance was used for the data processing (Nested design according to a random model). Correlation analysis was performed, heritability and variability indicators were calculated. The most consistent genetic and phenotypic correlations was found between stay green and water content in leaf. The highest mean value for stay green was found in the population NS 143 (=1.9) while the highest variability (Vg=0.37) and heritability (h2=80.54) were found in the population NS 140.
