The effects of irrigation, amount and time of application of N [nitrogen] on maize yield
1993

The effects of irrigation and nitrogen on grain yield in maize was studied on chernozem type of soil in Zemun Polje (Yugoslavia), over four years (1986-1989). The effect of irrigation on maize yield was more pronounced in the years with insufficient precipitation (e.g. 1988) than in the years with sufficient precipitation (as 1986, 1987 and 1989 were). All times of application had a similar effect on maize yield except variant V4. One rather than several N applications was established to be much more economical. 180 kg N/ha was found to the most appropriate N rate.
