Isolation and characterization of tissue gastrin hormones from swine gastric mucose

In this work a procedure was devised for the isolation of gastrin components G-17, G-34 and C-1st, and for purification of these components. The procedure is based on the extraction of mucosa with hot water, followed by the fractionation of the crude extract by means of gel filtration and ion-exchange chromatography. It was found that gastrins G-17, G-34 and component C-1st are all present in fundic mucosa. This procedure yielded higher amounts of the component C-1st than expected on the basis of the gastrin activity distribution in the stomach, and in the recent literature.
