Durable flame proofing for jute fabrics - part-1 [in Bangladesh]

A study was made to find out a suitable process for imparting durable flameproof finishes to jute fabrics. In this process urea, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate Turpex NP and Perapret PE 40 were used and it was observed that concentration and pH of the impregnating solution, ratio of the chemicals, liquor pick up and curing condition had definite effect on the flame resistance and tensile strength properties of the fabrics. Jute fabrics treated with 65% solution of urea and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate in the ratio of 1.5:1 together with 3% Turpex NP and 3% Perapret PE 40 at pH 7, having 110% liquor pick up and with curing at 110 deg.C, 120 deg.C temperature for 12 5 and 3 minutes respectively could be made flameproof (completely resistant to both afterflaming and afterglowing) with good fastness property having minimum loss of fabric strength.
