An attempt was made to induce short strawed mutants of the rye cultivar Conrah by EMS treatment of seeds. The derivatives of EMS treated seeds were of variable height. A single M2 plant and three M3 plants were identified as being substantially shorter than the normal height of Conrah. It was not possible to conclude from this experiment that these intermediate height plants are the result of EMS treatment. No evidence was available to determine the nature of the genetic control of plant height in these segregants.
