1993
Khanam, U.H.R.A.
The study shows that women are regarded as unpaid family workers, they seldom get a share of the income or involved in matters of family decision making. The main constraints related to the development of entrepreneurship are: (1) illiteracy, (2) lack of technical skill, (3) social and cultural inhibitions, (4) inadequate and ineffective training facilities and so on. In order to improve this position of women in Bangladesh, particularly the rural women, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) proposed a project called "Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme (WEDP)" which got its approval of the government under its second Five Year Plan (1980-85) to be implemented in collaboration with the USAID. The project concept is basically linked with poverty alleviation of rural disadvantaged group of women. There are some other organizations also in Bangladesh such as BRDB, Grameen Bank, BRAC, Swanirvar, etc which are also doing the same role. Taking loan from them the women are participating in income generating activities.
