Expression of heterosis under different growth stages in (Corchorus olitorius) jute [in India]

From a seven parent diallel cross in olitorius jute the nature of comparative heterosis was studied at seedling and matured growth stages. The cross combination, Russian red x JRO-632, may be useful in breeding for earliness, high fibre yield along with drought tolerance. The crosses, Tanganika x Russian red and Sudan green x Russian red, are expected to be of importance in breeding for drought tolerance coupled with high fibre yield. In this respect, inter-se crossing among the selections from JRO-878 x Russian red, JRO-7835 x JRO-632, JRO-7835 x Russian red and Tanganika x JRO-632 is suggested.
