The diploid metaphase components in both sexes of Catla catla consisted of 50 chromosomes of various shape and sizes. The full set of chromosomes were gradually seriated within the mean length values of 3.27 to 0.90 micra in male and 3.00 to 0.83 micra in female. Morphometrically the chromosomes are expressed by the formula; 9M+6m+8Sm+2St+25t for both sexes. No definite indication of sex chromosome was found except an erratic occurrence of a heteromorphic pair.
