Cyathostominosis as a cause of chronic diarrhoea in the horse: a review

In this paper a review is given of the life cycle of cyathostomes and of the pathogenesis and the clinical symptoms of cyathostominosis in horses. Some remarks are given about the treatment and the prevention. Since the arrested larval stages of these small strongyles are less susceptible to anthelmintics, they are the main problem in controlling gastro-intestinal parasites in horses. Therefore, the prevention of accumulation of these larval stages is essential.
