Long-term development of vegetation, reforestation and fauna as well as aspects of risk and natural hazards are investigated on 20 untouched windthrow areas caused by "Vivian" in the Swiss mountain forests in 1990. In three of these areas additional treatments with timber removal and plantation were applied. The question is which reforestation measures are appropriate, worthwile or necessary
