In vitro gynogenesis induction in Hungarian lines of onion (Allium cepa L.)
1995
Gemesne Juhasz, A. | Martinovich, L. (Vegetable Crops Research Institute, Kecskemet (Hungary))
The onion breeding programmes required large numbers of homozygous plants. The ovary culture gave the best rapid response and greatest number of gynogenic embryos on the BDS medium supplemented with 1mg/l NAA + 2mg/l BA. Direct shoot morphogenesis were observed on the BDS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l NAA + 3mg/l BA three months after the induction. The flower buds of only one line (655) gave embryos on the BDS medium supplemented with 2 mg/l 2,4-D + 2mg/l BA. When the flower buds were transferred to half MS medium supplemented with 6 sucrose a lot of embryos were obtained three months after the induction. The genotype of the donor plant affected the parthenogenic response. The analysis of chromosome numbers showed that 80 of the regenerants were haploid and 20 were double haploid
