Root rot fungi on grapevine in Hungary

The investigations showed Rosellinia necatrix to be the most frequent fungus on the roots. It had been detected on 71,6 of the root samples and it was present in almost 100 of the investigated field plots. The frequency of this fungus proved to be quite independent of the type, structure and pH value of the soil. The optimum temperature of mycelium development range from 21 degrees C to 24 degrees C, the minimum being 3 degrees C and the maximum 27 degrees C. The average soil temperatures of the upper 10-50 cm soil layer, recorded for several years, show that the temperature the Hungary is favourable to its development from May to October. The development of perithecia was observed only once. Roesleria pallidia had been detected on only 8,3 percent of the investigated field plots. It has been found rather solitary, however its range does not depend on the type of soil. The optimum temperature for mycelium development is 15 degrees C, the minimum and the maximum temperatures are 9 degrees C and 24 degrees C. This fungus is found in Hungary in the upper 10-50 cm layer of the soil and finds a favourable temperature from April to October. The development of apothecia was observed 11-17 months after artificial infection and after 6 months, when the culture was held at optimum temperature. The fungi Rosellinia necatrix and Roesleria pallida can not be eliminated by soil disinfection. According to the state of art, only prevention can be effective
