The most evident way of controlling mastitis can be observed by improving the cow environment. Keeping and milking technology and hygiene, in connection with keeping udders healthy and clean, play a decisive role in the quality of milk production. This study focuses on topics, which are in the author's opinion relevant publications and have appeared in the recent past both at home and abroad. The author discusses the impact of some keeping technology elements on mastitis incidence, the evaluation of milking operations and function of milking machinery today (effects of automatic milking systems included), and the importance of feeding, nutrition and that of the "human factor" in mastitis. The present study on the literature tries to bring out some crucial fields, thus also encouraging further research to be performed on the mastitis problem
