Life conditions for the brown hare (Lepus europaeus L.) are the most favourable in Hungary. The damage caused by hares can be considerable in cabbage, sugar beet, parsley, melons, cereals, sunflowers, fruit trees, vineyards, and in young oak, beach and maple plantations. The damage level can be effectively reduced by different plant protective methods (luring plants, tree-trunk protectant bandages, alarming noises, chemical control methods)
