The collected and prepared lipote bark contains constituents which could be extracted through maceration by using 80 percent ethyl alcohol. The phytochemical screening of the 80 percent alcoholic extract of lipote bark confirmed the presence of active constituents which clearly shows that the lipote bark contains medicinal properties. The presence of inorganic salts in the plants as well as carbohydrates and proteins also confirms that the plant contains inactive substances which are also beneficial to the human being. The sodium chloride in sufficient amounts could be administered to the body to get rid of extra fluid in tissues. This could indicate that the plant extract could eliminate fluids from the body thus it could lessen edema formation. On the other hand potassium salts like potassium chloride are frequently employed with certain diuretics or itself may be used as diuretic. Based on the results obtained on microbiological screening, the 80 percent alcoholic extract of lipote bark can also inhibit the growth of microorganisms specifically, Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium causing boils and related skin infection as well as inflammation. The alcoholic extract of lipote bark when administered orally in female rats also showed a slight anti-inflammatory activity at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg giving 19.67 percent protection against edema formation.
