Researches concerning sexual behaviour with rams intensively used in programmes of artificial insemination

The study of the sexual behaviour and usual spermograms in two groups of rams belonging to the Palas Merino breed rendered evident those rams which can be intensively used in artificial insemination. The obtained results lead to the conclusion that adult rams should be used for intense semen collecting in three ejaculates per day, for this reason the semen quantity and quality being significantly better when compared to yearlings, while yearlings should be used for intensive semen collecting in four ejaculates per day, for which the fourth ejaculate may be collected in an 80 per cent proportion compared to 26.77 per cent in adults and having no significant differences for the semen indexes.
