Morpho-productive characteristics of Coopworth breed rared in the conditions of Brasov area [Romania]

For a better knowledge of the Coopworth breed adaptability (imported from New Zealand in 1976) to the geographical and climatic conditions specific to the area of the Grassland Research Institute Magurele - Brasov, the main reproduction and morpho-productive indices of sheep population existing in this institute have been assessed. The data concerning reproduction indices and production parameters point out the fact that the Coopworth breed has adapted to the geographical and climatic conditions of Brasov area. The study also presents the performances obtained by Tigaia x Coopworth crosses and recommends the possibility of using Coopworth breed to improve some productive traits of Tigaia breed sheep.
