[Apparent clay, a new ecopedological index]

Popa, V.G. (Statiunea de Cercetare si Productie Pomicola, Baneasa (Romania))
The clay content of the soil is expressed in soil science as per cent of the mineral fines fractions. A new ecopedological indicator, respectively "Apparent clay content (AA)" is proposed for research use. This indicator takes into consideration the clay content of the total fines fractions, including both humus and carbonates content; also, their actual situation in the spatial distribution of the clay, according to the apparent density (DA) of the soil. AA (t/m3) = 10 power(-3) x A (t/ha/10 cm) in which, A (t/ha/10 cm) = Clay (per cent of total fines fractions) x 10 cm x DA (t/m3). The best conditions for the vine roots were determined at 0.30 AA 0.45.
