Parameters of mitotic cycle of flower plants

This paper is a continuation of publications dealing with literary data on mitotic cycle and parameters of its phases in flower plants (Grif, Ivanov, 1975, 1980). The data obtained within the last 15 years and information about mitotic cycle in plant tissues and cell cultures are given. The present review covers evidence of 54 species belonging to 44 genera and 19 families, of which only 24 species from 14 genera and 5 families were not studied before. By this time the mitotic cycle parameters have been studied more or less satisfactory for 150 species of 34 families. The references employed 300 names. The duration of mitotic cycle and its phases depends on numerical factors and primarity of the temperature: it is known that even a small (5-10 degree C) deviation from optimal temperature leads to a significant increase in mitotic cycle duration. The optimization of conditions of meiotic cycle parameter determination for obtaining comparable data is discussed by registering speed of root growth, comparatively simple method is proposed for determination of cell division and optimal growth temperature
