The influence of plant genotype on regeneration processes

The regenerative capasity of plants was studied using a culture of isolated organs. Genotypic diversity in callus, root, and shoot formation capasity is described. For radish, the genes r sub(S) and r sub(L), which determine root formation, and the c gene, which influences callus formation, were described. Expression of regeneration traits was shown to be connected with the phytohormonal balance. Wide intraspecific diversity with respect to susceptibility to transformation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens and A. rhizogenes strains was revealed. A relationship between regenerative and transformational capacities was revealed in the case of pea and potato. A method of selection of pathogen-resistant plants according to phytosterol content was developed
