In this paper the results of a study of soil mites (Acarina) in inundated forest Kralovska luka, Slovakia, during 1989-1992 are presented. The absence of periodical flooding in 1990 influenced the mite community by remarkably increasing the abundance, number of species and frequency of individuals. This increase concerned both the groups of mites requiring drier soil and polyvalent species. Accordingly, the main trophic groups correlated better than in the case of periodical flood impact. Moreover, the value of overall species diversity was higher than in 1989. In the next 2 years periodical flooding reduced these values to the stage previous to the flooding in 1989. Soil mites can indicate that this type of biocoenosis is influenced by general conditions of catastrophic climax
