The suggested regulations for the protection of experimental animals are based on internationally recognised ethical principles. The research institutions should establish and maintain appropriate policies and procedures to ensure the humane care and use of live vertebrate animals. Recent developments in the use of human fetal tissue for therapeutical transplantations represent some serious ethical problems. Proposals for the ethical use of human fetal tissues are put forward.
