Tendency in development of prime costs of agricultural products in Slovakia

The Research Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics, Bratislava (Slovakia), is concerned with finding and evaluating agricultural production costs. The number of respondents for a selected sample has been decreasing during the search period as a result of the transformation process in agriculture after 1989. Cost development trends were affected by the overall situation in the economy, especially in agricultural enterprises. Lower costs in years 1990-1993 were caused by lower input use because of the lack of finances in the farms after input prices increased. In the most productive sectors, the costs calculated per hectare or other unit increased again in 1993.
