The OIE ad hoc Group on Non Tsetse-Transmitted Animal Trypanosomoses (NTTAT) - formerly "Working Group on Trypanosoma evansi infections" - was set up to fill the gap and understanding these diseases in 1983. During its meetings a considerable amount of information was gained in this respect, particularly in the scope of trypanosomosis in camels. In particular, it triggered the research work in reliable diagnostic methods (antibody and antigen ELISA) in an efficient trypanocide (melarsomine) and in special aspects of immunology in camels.
