As a peasant crop, cotton was of no significance in 1946, but by 1951 its dominance in Swaziland seemed hard to challenge. In reaching fairly high levels of production, Swazi cultivators have been assisted by such factors as credit and marketing opportunities provided by South African brokers. This paper traces the course of developments to the present.
