Effect of plant nutrients to the yield of peanuts grown on sandy soils of Kularonghai [Thailand]

Peanut experiment was conducted at land Development Center Amphoe Suwannaphum Changwat Roi Et during May to September 1986. The NPK fertilizer in combination with the secondary and micronutrients was applied in the treatments accordingly in order to study the nutrient reguirement of peanuts grown on sandy soil of Tung Kula Ronghai. A composite soil sample was taken prior to run the experiment. The chemical analyses were as followed: pH 5.6, 0.49 % OM, 0.053 % total N, 5 ppm Bray II-P, 8 ppm exch. K, 55 ppm exch Ca, 50 ppm exch. Mg. The total micronutrient content in soil was 26.47 ppm Cu, 5.4 ppm Zn, 259.71 ppm Mn and 0.225 % Fe. Peanut responded markedly to NPK with gypsum in which the pod yield was 38 % over NPK treatment. Without Ca application was reduced the peanut yield to 7 % as compared to NPK treatment. The shelling percentage of peanut at no Ca treatment was reduced to 62.07 % as compared to 71.63 % in Ca supply. The application of city compost without NPK gave 49 % higher peanut yield than NPK treatment. But the application of city compost with NPK gave 80 % of peanut yield higher than NPK treatment. In conclusion for better growing of peanuts on Tha Tum soil at Tung Kula Ronghai NPK fertilization is practically applied with compost and gypsum in order to maintain satisfactory yield and it can solve the problem of shrivelled pods.
