Effects of phosphate and sulfur fertilizers on yield and quality of soybean [Glycine max] var. SJ. 5 on Lampang series

Sulfur fertilizers did not statistically affect yield and quality of soybean seeds. However, gypsum tended to increase seed yield. Seed yields and its sulfur concentration with no fertilizer, with ammonium sulfate and with gypsum were 304, 315, 325 kg/rai and 0.233, 0.247, 0.266 %, respectively. Methionine contents of seeds were 1.26, 1.34 and 1.40 gram per 16 grams of nitrogen for treatments with no fertilizer, with ammonium sulfate and gypsum, respectively. While cystine contents were 1.74, 1.86 and 2.18 gram per 16 grams of nitrogen respectively. Soybean was found to be very responsive to phosphate fertilizer. Seed yields and its phosphorus concentraion with no fertilizer, with triple superphosphate, with thermal phosphate and with rock phosphate were 263, 384, 300, 311 kg/rai and 0.50, 0.40, 0.42, 0.39 %, respectively. Protein contents of the seeds were 40.7, 41.7, 41.2 and 41.1 %, respectively. The four treatments gave comparable oil contents of about 18.6 %. Interaction between sulfur and phosphate fertilizer on yield and quality were not found.
