Study on the effects of seed size on growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). Two large-seeded groundnut lines, namely, KUP24D-084 and KUP24D-421 were separated into three size categories, large, medium and small, by using hand screens of 21.5/64x3/4 inch and 18/64x3/4 inch. The three seed sizes were compared to unsized peanut seed. Seed germination was not affected by seed size although seed weight and seedling dry weight of the large, medium, small and unsized seed were different. Field experiment was of a split-split plot design. The two peanut lines were two plots. The numbers of seed per hill of one, two and three were the three sub plots. Four seed classes, namely, large, medium, small and unsized seeds were the four sub-sub plots. Small peanut seed germinated faster than did the large seed but seed size had no effect on either flowering date, number of pod per plant, number of seed per pod or seed yield. High yield was obtained from two or three seeds per hill planted at the spacing of 50x20 cm.
